(with thanks to Reiner Knizia for designing such a wonderful game with an easily-modified theme)
For something a little more transportable (and with a more WoD flavor :-) than the actual Ra game, for those of you who have the rules and have memorized the scoring, I suggest the following. To those of you who do not know how to play Ra, I highly recommend learning.
180 Cards needed for the deck.
Ra - 30 Rumors of Gehenna. OK, so that's not really feasible. Until something more suitable comes along, use Anarch Revolts or Dramatic Upheavals or a combination of Bombs/Grenades or Regaining the Upper Hand or whatever.
Gods - 8 Whispers from the Dead or other card-retrieval card (like Possession, Summon Soul, Reinforcements, Sybil's Tongue, Magic of the Smith, etc).
Pharos - 25 Praxis Seizure cards (duplicates OK). If you don't have
enough, pad with Crusades and/or
Funeral - 2 Command of the Harpy cards
Nile - 25 Laptop Computer (or make up balance with Pulse of Canaille, or
Threats and Conditioning, but permanents modifiers are better,
thematically).
Flood - 12 in any combinations of Lost in Crowds, Faceless Night, etc.
(non-permanent stealth)
Drought - 2 in any combination of Enhanced Senses, Spirit's Touch, etc.
(non-permanent intercept)
Gold - 5 Short Term Investment (or, if you prefer, Consanguineous Boon)
Civilization - 25 card composed of 5 each of Fake Out, Lucky Blow, Blur,
Boxed In, and Bum's Rush
Unrest - 4 Majesty or Obedience
Monuments - 40 cards composed of 5 copies of each of 8 different master:
locations.
Earthquake - 2 Unnatural Disaster.
You'll also need bid cards. You can use KQJ and 10 through A from a normal
deck of cards for 3- or 4-player games.
Or use crypt cards with capacities from 1 to 11 and then add Smudge
(lowest) and Arika (highest).
If you have 5 players, well, why not play V:TES?
